A platform move is the easiest way to lose years of search traffic in one weekend. It does not have to be. Most of the damage comes from a handful of avoidable mistakes.
Export every URL before you start
Crawl the old store and pull the list of pages that get search traffic. That list is the contract: every one of those addresses must lead somewhere sensible after the move.
Keep URLs where you can, redirect where you cannot
Product and category slugs can usually be kept. Where the structure changes, add a permanent redirect from each old address to its closest new page, not to the homepage.
Carry over titles, descriptions and image text
Imports often drop meta titles and image alt text. Check a sample of products by hand after the import.
Launch on a quiet day and watch the errors
Watch the not-found log for the first two weeks. Every 404 from an old link is a redirect you missed.
We have moved stores from most hosted platforms. See what a migration includes.
